So the state has created a new hall of fame to honor Alabama’s love of the smoked meat. The Alabama Barbecue Hall of Fame includes 29 restaurants across the state that have been open for at least 50 years. Among the Birmingham area inductees are Golden Rule Bar-B-Q (1891), Carlile’s Barbeque (1945), Johnny Ray’s BBQ (1953), Bob Sykes Bar-B-Q (1957) and Demetri’s BBQ (1961).
