of May, thousands of people and pets gather for the zaniest pet parade you ll ever see and then flock to Caldwell and Rhodes parks for a day of music and fun, all in support of local animal shelters. Featuring food, drinks, arts and crafts, animal adoptions and lots of activities for the kids. Because where else in Birming- ham can you throw a party for 40,000 of your closest friends and raise money for homeless animals?! Joyce J.

Function in the Junction Erskine Hawkins Park Ensley For over 20 years, people have been gathering in Ensley in late July to honor Birmingham native Erskine Hawkins. The late jazz musician and composer of the jazz standard Tuxedo Junction attended the festival every year until his death in 1993. The festival begins with a parade to the park, where numerous jazz and gospel acts play throughout the day. Great music, and so much fun for the kids. One of my favorite events of the summer!
