1. Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame Outside on the sidewalk, visitors can feel the rhythm. From the boogie-woogie beginnings of Clarence Pinetop Smith to the velvet crooning of Nat King Cole, legendary jazz greats are immortalized in the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame, within the historic Carver Theatre. Interactive exhibits also recall the contributions of Sun Ra and His Intergalactic Space Arkestra, along with Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton and Erskine Hawkins. Open Tues Sat, 10 am 5 pm. 2. Alabama Museum of Health Sciences Located on the campus of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, the museum is noted for its collection of small ivory 16th and 17th century anatomical models, a collection of wax moulage and an antique iron lung. The museum also houses a collection of rare and important medical books and manuscripts dating to the Middle Ages. Open Mon Fri, 9 am 5 pm. 3. Alabama Splash Adventure Waterpark Alabama Splash Adventure is a combination waterpark and amusement park off ering a variety of waterslides, thrilling rides and activities for all ages. Attractions include the UpSurge! tube ride, a large 800,000 gallon wave pool, lazy river and water playground with interactive features like geysers and buckets. For thrill-seekers, the park has Splashdown where you plunge 50-feet in an enclosed tube into a giant bowl where you'll spin round and round until you fall out the bottom and for extreme dare devils, Acapulco Drop is 9-story vertical drop speed slide. Alabama Sports Hall of Fame Displays include memorabilia from the late University of Alabama Coach Paul Bear Bryant, a tribute to Olympic great Jesse Owens, and other displays showcasing the careers of Alabama-connected sports fi gures such as Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and Joe Louis.
