Downtown Walking Tour

Birmingham s downtown district is walkable and fi lled with historic architecture. The Historic Buildings of Downtown Birmingham and Five Points South is available at Tourist Information Centers and guides visitors through some of the most interesting parts of the city Upper Downtown, Downtown West, Lower Downtown and the Heart of Five Points South. Negro Southern League Museum This interactive facility tells the story of the Birmingham Black Barons and other baseball greats who played at Birmingham s Rickwood Field, the oldest ballpark in the country. 30. Oak Mountain State Park More outdoor adventure can be found at Ala- bama s largest state park. The 10,000-acre park has a sandy beach area fronting the lake, rental boats and fi shing equipment, an 18-hole golf course, and some of the best mountain biking trails in the Southeast. The Wildlife Center and Treetop Nature Trail give visitors up-close views of hawks and owls that cannot be released into the wild. Overnight accommodations also are available within the park.
