Garage Café 2304 10th Terr S 205-322-3220 BIRMINGHAM
A once-hidden jewel in down- town Southside, The Garage has been named one of The World s Best Places to Fly For by GQ Magazine. Vines of wisteria canopy its eclectic patio, mak- ing it one of the most relaxing
spots to grab a drink downtown. Patrons sit on funky antique outdoor furniture, listen to local bands and enjoy cold beers with thick specialty sandwiches on local Big Sky bread. It is so unique. It s a great place to be during the summer especially. The patio is interesting to walk around and admire. Elizabeth M.
Dave s 1128 20th St S 205-933-4030 BIRMINGHAM
Where friends meet. In the center of Southside, this local neighborhood pub is known for a wide assortment of draft beers and a friendly atmosphere. Their deck looks out over a busy corner of town. Great place for meeting friends. Dave s is great. You can go in anytime and have a drink, and it s just around the corner. On weeknights it is really mellow and not overcrowded, so my friends and I can have a quiet drink. On weekends though, we can mix in with the huge crowd of people and really have a good time. Linc P.
The Derby 3630 6th Ave S 205-595-0067 BIRMINGHAM
Everyone still calls them The Brown Derby, but not too much has changed. The Derby has all the ingredients of a good dive bar cold beer, a well-stocked jukebox, pool, darts and good company. Serving lunch Monday through Friday. I almost hate to let the secret out! It has every charm a honky- tonking, hole-in-the-wall dive bar should the horseshoe pit, kara- oke and one of the best jukeboxes in town. Jenifer W.
